NHS Class of 1953 Busy Raising Money for the NHS Library - Dollhouse to be raffled |
Ben Plouff, an Amesbury cabinet maker and finish carpenter, has been building prize winning dollhouses in his spare time. For the past two years, Ben has entered his dollhouses in the crafts competition at the Topsfield Fair. During these two years, his work has awarded him with three blue ribbon first prizes. This year's winner, a country farmhouse, is being donated to Ben's NHS Class of 1953 to be used as a fund-raiser for the High School Library.
At the fiftieth class reunion four years ago, the class donated $500.00 to the library in memory of Virginia Bilmazes Bernard, who was a popular high school librarian. At that time, the class decided to establish a yearly fund drive from classmates to continue this worthy cause. Each year the class has raised $500.00 to $1000.00 for the NHS Library. The gift of Ben Plouff 's prize winning dollhouse will be used to raise additional money in order to sustain this charitable endeavor. The blue ribbon dollhouse will be on display at various High School and public events throughout the spring and summer. Raffle tickets will be on sale at these events, with the dollhouse as the grand prize in the drawing, and two cash prizes of $200.00 and $100.00 also awarded. The drawing will take place at the Class of 1953's 55th class reunion on September 20, 2008. The class will also conduct its annual fund-raiser for the NHS Library by soliciting class members this spring. Ben Plouff with prize winning dollhouse
